Japan's strong economy makes it a popular destination for skilled workers, particularly in the IT and telecoms sector. Japan has two main categories for work permits: Highly Skilled Professional visa and Working visa. The Working visa is the most basic work permit in Japan
The Working visa is the most basic work permit in Japan, designed for a number of different kinds of professionals: Professor, Artist, Religious activities, Journalist, Business manager, Legal/Accounting services, Medical services, Researcher, Instructor, Engineer/Specialist in humanities/International services, Intra-company transfer, Entertainers, Skilled labor.
When an application for visa is made for the purpose of employment in Japan, it is necessary to obtain the “Certificate of Eligibility” from Japan and for the visa applicant to file a visa application to the Japanese embassy/consulate-general by submitting the original copy of the Certificate.
Entry permission periods range from three months to five years. It is not possible for foreigners to engage in manual / simple labor under a working visa, unless they have the visa granted according to the family status (spouse/child of Japanese national, long term resident, etc.), a trainee visa, or are part-time workers on student or dependent visas.
For example, there are no work visas for; hair-dressing, massage therapists, waiter/waitress, salesclerk, construction workers, etc.
How to apply for Japan Work Visa?
You will get Japan work visa in the following steps-

Those who have received a job offer or employer who wish to engage a foreign worker in Japan must first make a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Once the COE is completed with the supporting documents, the application is then submitted to the Japan Immigration Office for review.
Once COE is granted and received, the applicant can then take that COE to Japan Embassy or consulate in their home country, to have it converted to a work visa. This process takes a few working days.
Documents Required for Japan Work Visa:
Following is the list of documents required for Japan work visa for Indians-
1.Passport: A Passport must be valid for 6 months.
2.Old Passport, If available
3. Photo: The photographs must be submitted as per the following specification-
The face must cover 80% of the frame.
The dimensions must be 45x45 mm
The background must be white.
The expressions on the face must be neutral.
The ears must be visible clearly.
4.Air Ticket: It is an important document. It should be submitted for the following reason-
It is proof that you will return to your home country after the duration of stay.
It must be confirmed for the whole trip.
5.Certificate of Eligibility (COE):It must be the original certificate of eligibility for the ones who are dependent on the Indian nationals in Japan.
