Fertigation - An Accurate Way to Feed Plants

technologies are developed to improve the precision farming in a better way. Japan developed good sustainable agriculture techniques whereas the advancement of IoT and AI was added along with fertigation process.

Right from ancient times, fertile and productive soil are important components responsible for the development of civilizations and stable societies. Healthy soil is important for the growth of plants which are needed for food, fibre and feed for animals and also for water and energy preservation purpose. For better production fertilizers are used. As the population of the world keep on increasing the production rate should be increased. High water consumption and fertilizer usage should be prevented on the goodness of the environment and health of the soil. Thus technologies are developed to improve the precision farming in a better way. Japan developed good sustainable agriculture techniques whereas the advancement of IoT and AI was added along with fertigation process.

FERTIGATION

When fertilizer and water are mixed together with proper concentration and sprayed would result in good production. The process is meant to be fertigation. The nutrients and water in the required quantity at time correct time are placed in the root zone by the process of micro irrigation systems. The mixture of water and fertilizer would yield more crops then being separately figured out.

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF FERTIGATION

To make sure the better yield and production of crops, the fertilizer and water mixture should be done properly. Meantime the study of the growth cycle of the plant, physiological properties should be taken care of. Proper form of fertigation should note the following requirements. They are,

·         Nutrient requirement

·         Rooting patterns

·         Soil chemical factors

·         Solubility and mobility of the nutrient

·         pH and salt index of soil

·         Interaction between fertilizers and irrigation water

·         Fertilizer concentration

·         Chemical composition

·         Solubility of fertilizer with more number

·         Supersaturation common ions are needed to be noted.

IRRIGATION WATER PROPERTIES

Water with high carbonate and bicarbonates of calcium and magnesium from tube well waters could precipitate with fertilizers as they are with high pH value.

Water with a high content of iron and aluminium and low pH as like from tropical climate causes toxicity due to the elements present and the precipitation of phosphorous.

Thus neutral form of pH water should be used.

ADVANTAGES OF FERTIGATION

This process could supply essentials to the rhizosphere, the place where effective roots are concentrated. Effective Foraging Space (EFS) would give about maximum space of 80 per cent or more of the root activity of the plant. High and quality yield is achieved through fertigation. Constant supply of nutrients through irrigation water could result in good production. Labour cost is reduced as there is uniform and constant spread and maintain of nutrients to the plants.

PRECAUTIONS

·         Complete dissolving of fertilizer

·         Compatible fertilizer selection

·         Irrigation water quality checker

·         Time management between water supply and nutrient supply

·         Over irrigation cautions
