Things That Make Japanese Ridiculous to Hear
This is one among the series of articles that we saw on the obstacles that I come across learning Japanese. Having known that you guys would have fed upon reading about the measures to be taken to overcome the weakness in Kanji that worked out for me. Here, in this article, I have analysed a few more obstacles that are to be taken into care as serious as Kanji. But profoundness in Kanji is required mostly for clearing Japanese language proficiency test.
The factors that we see in this article would be a burden for you if not corrected early. These are the occasions at which I got frustrated too. It could even make your Japanese ridiculous to hear. Let’s see what those factors are,
* Appropriate usage of vocabularies,
The above factors could make a major impact on your speaking ability.
Appropriate usage of vocabularies:
Appropriate usage of vocabularies is of great importance that it could really be embarrassing if you fail to do so. It could be achieved only if you learn all the possible usage of a vocabulary that you come across. The first thing you have to do when you come across a new vocabulary is to learn all the possible meanings of that vocabulary. The second thing is that understanding the proper usage by viewing the example sentences of that vocabulary. This gives you the nature and the proper understanding of the vocabulary. Consider the example below.
ファイルを開いてください。(fairu wo hiraite kudasai)
Please open the file.
This is a different context that you should not use the verb 開ける (akeru) here but 開く(hiraku). Hope this could make you clear what I am tending to explain. Obviously both has the same kanji but different usage . This is the importance of learning all the usages of a vocabulary.
Collocation, in simple words is the combination of words or an act of the use of certain words together or pairing of certain words. For an example, ‘take a bath’ in English. Let's see it in Japanese.
お風呂に入る。(o-furo ni hairu)
Get into a bath.
Above is a good example for collocation. Let's take a look at another example.
傘を差してね。(kasa wo sashite ne)
Hold up the umbrella.
Study of collocation paves way for more natural Japanese. We don't have much books dedicated for collocation of words in Japanese for a long time. I'll provide the link for a book that has been widely used by many Japanese learners for collocation. ’Common Japanese Collocation’ is the book that I wish to introduce to you guys. Please find below the link:
I would like to give you guys all that I had followed to overcome these weaknesses.
* Learning all the meanings of a vocabulary. This is really tough and could be achieved only if you hear to a lot of speeches in Japanese.
* Try using all the newly learnt vocabularies frequently and you will not forget it if once corrected by someone when used wrongly.
* Try learning vocabularies based on circumstances. For example, if you are learning a vocabulary that is related to withdrawal of cash, then try learning all the vocabularies regarding that situation.
